memorias

for guitar

an ongoing project

The «memorias» for guitar have their roots in a literary project in which an old man writes down his memories in music.
For me, the guitar player, more than most other instrumentalists, is a story-teller. While it is easy to play the room and open a sound space on other instruments like the piano or to perambulate universes with the wide arching melodies and harmonies of a violin, the guitarist is the one who tells you quietly in a small setting about essential things in an intimate manner. He, too, can speak of higher regions, universes and ordinary experiences, but he does it through the guitar from the very unpathetic perspective of the I, his personal point of view. That's why the musical language of the memorias is similar to spoken language. It speaks of «memories» from the past, memories from the now and memories from the future. Memories we all carry within us.
