Martin Schmid

Martin Schmid was born 1971 in Switzerland, where he lives with his wife and his two sons. He began to compose at young age at the old piano at home that no one ever played. Since the beginning, silence was one of his main inspirations for composing. He joined the Musikhochschule Basel in 1995. Although enjoying the support of the great teachers he had there, he left after one year to find his own way of writing music which led him to extensive travels in the outer and inner world.
After composing in seclusion for more than twelve years to have enough time and space to find his own music and only occasionally having performed a piece, Martin chose the year 2008 to go public with his work.
Shortly after that, in 2009, he was already being awarded the «Zuger Werkjahr», the jury calling his music «a discovery».

His writing does not limit to music. After writing several non-fictional books, he turned to write novels, short stories, and poems. Also in 2009, he won an award for his story «Der Engel» (The Angel) from the «Zentralschweizer Literaturförderung.»
